Our Platinum Investors In People: High performing teams
Leading truck rental and contract hire company, Alltruck plc has joined the elite top two percent of Investors in People (IIP) accredited organisations in the UK by being awarded the IIP’s highest Platinum Standard.
Midlands-based privately-owned truck rental and contract hire provider Alltruck is only the second business in the fleet industry to achieve the IIP Platinum Standard, the highest accreditation of the internationally respected people management IIP Standard framework that recognises organisation’s exceptional employee support and initiatives.
Alltruck has its headquarters in Croft, South West Leicestershire and further depots in Loughborough and Nottingham, and first became an accredited Investor in People in 2004 and was awarded the Gold Standard in 2016.
“Whilst most companies in our sector focus on their vehicles to achieve results, we believe it is our people that are at the heart of our business,” says Alltruck Managing Director Paul Robinson.
“At Alltruck, our value system consists of being ‘committed to caring for customers and colleagues by being passionate, progressive and proactive.’ By each staff member ‘living’ to these values, we are able to work collaboratively across departments, focus on continuous improvement and protect the brands and reputations of our customers.
“Our values, competencies and behaviours all played a key part in achieving IIP Platinum status.”
To gain the IIP Platinum accreditation, Alltruck underwent a rigorous assessment process which included several IIP meetings with the directors and the executive team, staff interviews from all business departments, presentations and observations.
Commenting on Alltruck’s performance, IIP Assessor John Walden said: “Alltruck Plc demonstrated it is an organisation that not only embraces principles of high performance in relation to people and business, but is at the forefront of developing best practice principles for operation within the business.
“The directors have empowered everyone in the business to make decisions, and the results from the online assessment were consistently high for each question relating to how they lead and inspire people. At the interviews, people talked positively about the restructure and changes that have taken place.”
Alltruck Financial Director Debbie Halliday explains the company’s ‘people initiatives’ reflect its desire to become the employer of choice within the industry: “We want all our people to be able to flourish and achieve their potential. Everyone is encouraged to put forward suggestions to make improvements throughout the business, and the senior leadership team are transparent in the way we operate.
“For example, we have quarterly council sessions at each site where our people share information on the business and its strategy for the future. We also host a bi-annual ‘Pink Week,’ where staff are invited for a week away at luxury self-catered accommodation to get involved in strategy development and teamwork activities.
“We also have an in-house training school, the Alltruck Academy. This allows us to share new and innovative knowledge, identify and develop future leaders and ensure that our people are equipped to meet our exacting requirements for now and in the future.”
Alltruck runs an Employee of the Month initiative which recognises staff members who ‘live’ the company’s values, who receive £250 to donate to a charity of their choice. The company also treats its staff members to ‘Lunch on us’ once every month, and is deeply engaged with its local communities through organisations such as the local charity Leicestershire Cares, which puts businesses in touch with community schemes throughout the region.
“At Alltruck, we wholeheartedly believe that through engaging our people we are able to build a better Alltruck for everyone,” adds Alltruck HR Operations Manager, Amanda Coombs. “The IIP Platinum award is an important benchmark for us and demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement, employee engagement and protecting value.”
Paul Robinson adds: “We are immensely proud to be awarded the IIP Platinum Standard. It recognises the fact our people are at the heart of what we do every do and very much a part of the Alltruck family.”
