How long have you been working in the transport industry?

I have been working in the transport industry for four years now.

Why did you choose this industry to come into?

Well, for me, it’s something that face-paced, it’s exciting, it’s the backbone of this country. There’s not a moment where you’re driving down the street where you don’t see a van or a lorry delivering goods to other businesses or people. It’s an exciting industry to be in.

What are your thoughts on the industry?

Probably one of the things I enjoy most about my role is going into different customer’s business and I get to go into a customer’s factory, site, building and see how transport becomes integrated into their business.

Whether their manufacturing cookers to timber roof trusses, it’s actually seeing how transport becomes a key part of their business. At the end of the day, when a truck leaves a customer’s site, that vehicle becomes the face and brand of that business – which I don’t think can be understated.

What’s one thing about the industry you wish people who aren’t in it knew about?

One thing that people do know about, but don’t necessarily quite appreciate is transport is 24/7, 365. It is an industry that never sleeps, and the backbone of that is some fantastic people. It is an industry that is defined by people and long-standing relationships. The truck is just a means to an end.

What’s the biggest challenge that the industry faces today?

The environmental changes that are facing the industry today are incredibly fast-paced. I think the next step for the transport industry is understanding how we build the infrastructure and keep it up to speed for the trucks, whether they be electric, hydrogen-powered, or otherwise. We need to make the changes that I think we all want to see, really.

What makes you proud to be in the industry?

What makes me proud in the transport industry, and at Alltruck plc, is the people.

I think that’s one thing that differentiates Alltruck from everyone else.  The people, the characters you get to meet along the way. It’s certainly an exciting industry to be part of.
