As UK logistics businesses respond to growing delivery demands, PJB Glass is scaling up with the help of Alltruck plc – selecting their full-service distribution solution to support national growth.
Headquartered in the East Midlands, PJB had already built a strong local reputation. But with expansion firmly in sight, they were looking for more than just vehicles, they needed a trusted logistics partner to manage drivers, compliance, insurance, and fleet operations under one cohesive agreement. That’s where Alltruck plc stepped in.
“We liked Keith’s personable approach to the whole thing,” says PJB Glass’ Managing Director, Luke Barrell. “He wasn’t just trying to sell us a package, he genuinely believed in what he was offering.”
From day one, the relationship was rooted in understanding, not hard selling.
According to Alltruck’s Operations Director, Keith Pound:
“Initially a short-term rental customer, Tim Underwood, our Sales Business Development Manager saw an opportunity to support their business growth with Alltruck’s extended services. They progressed through Contract Hire and into Distribution and were really satisfied with our customer service throughout.”
PJB now has a bespoke fleet configuration that not only supports their evolving needs, but includes dedicated drivers and all running costs, giving the business the freedom to focus on scaling up.
“PJB share our values and have a real growth mindset,” adds Keith. “From my first meeting with their board, it was clear they were open to new ideas and keen to build a two-way relationship.”
A key feature of the new fleet includes a lorry with a removable overhead curtain and a van with a glass frail, specifications designed to better serve their customer base.
“Features like the sliding roof and external frails were tailored specifically for safe and efficient glass transport,” Keith explains. “It’s not a one-size-fits-all.”
This level of customisation came from active listening and technical understanding.
“It started with listening. We understood their need to use cranes for unloading, which is why we introduced the sliding roof. We also specified a frail on their 3.5t LCV panel van to accommodate large sheets of glass. Our solutions were shaped by their feedback.”
But the partnership went beyond hardware. It also tackled long-standing operational issues.
“Driver retention, training, and fuel efficiency were key challenges,” Keith notes. “Our expertise in managing and training drivers really made a difference there.”
“PJB were focused heavily on transport legislation and compliance, which was pulling attention away from their core; manufacturing glass. That’s where Alltruck stepped in. We take that burden off our customers so they can focus on what they do best.”
The onboarding process was seamless, with Alltruck’s team offering hands-on support throughout the transition.
“Alltruck were prompt to respond and dealt with everything raised,” Luke explains. “The relationship with the team has been strong, everyone’s made themselves available and taken time to understand our needs. Special mention to Ian, who just cracks on and sorts everything before we even knew there was an issue.”
Every corner of Alltruck’s business was involved in making it a success.
“This partnership touched every part of the business—from short-term rental to distribution,” Keith says. “It began with Tim, then Keith, Ian, Dave, Finance, HR (including TUPE), and the Bodyshop for bespoke builds. Monthly reporting keeps everything on track, and the photoshoot at head office gave PJB a chance to meet the wider team behind the scenes.”
As PJB broadens its national footprint, the partnership reflects a long-term strategic vision.
“As we expand and grow, we need partners who can help us achieve that goal,” says Luke. “Alltruck has a strong team culture and the flexibility we were looking for.”
“This is part of our wider strategy to grow our Distribution offer,” Keith adds. “Our knowledge of the glass transport industry, across both contract hire and distribution, sets us apart. PJB’s journey with us shows how a short-term rental relationship can evolve into a full-service distribution partnership.”
With increased operational control, a custom high-performance fleet, and the right people behind the wheel, PJB is primed to deliver measurable gains in fuel efficiency, customer satisfaction, and driver retention, while reinforcing their commitment to investment and growth.
“They’re great to work with, open-minded, values-led people,” Keith says. “It’s a pleasure doing business with them.”
