DX Freight approached Alltruck to develop and build a
bespoke 5 tonne vehicle which had a 2200kg payload, the
ability to carry a 6000mm load and dramatically reduce
carbon emissions. Not an easy task.
Alltruck’s Bodyshop Manager, Andy Hunt, oversaw the
engineering process of the vehicle, designing bespoke
features such as a fold away floor panel, to ensure the
load could be locked into position whilst the vehicle was in
transit and a side gate to provide support to the 6m load
from below. The vehicle had lightweight Polypropylene
panels made from recycled plastic bottles and a patented
Aerokit. The Bodyshop built a successful prototype version,
which DX approved and an order for 30 vehicles was placed.
To highlight the successes of the Bodyshop, DX returned
to Alltruck the following year with the aim of creating a
3.5 tonne version of the vehicle, which required a payload of
1200kg as well as the 6000mm load length. A challenge the
Bodyshop tackled head on. DX then ordered a further
55 vehicles.
